Jackie Chan’s ‘Skiptrace’ Had Gotten a Huge Success at the Chinese Box Office





Recently, Jackie Chan’s action comedy Skiptrace shot to $60 million over its four-day debut at the Chinese box office, no wonder it was real Jackie Chan style movie, it was reported, the film released on Thursday and charged off to a $14.7 million opening day.

It easily besting Warner Bros.' The Legend of Tarzan. which came in a distant second, The director of the film ‘Skiptrace’ was Renny Harlin who was a famous Finnish filmmaker and Hollywood action veteran, he moved to Beijing two years ago to work in the fast-growing Chinese industry.

The film 'Skiptrace' is a Hong Kong-Chinese-American action comedy film, and the main characters in the film speak both Chinese and English. It originally was released at the last year’s Christmas in China, but then it has been delayed to this summer. It is said that The film “Skiptrace” could be the only Chinese-language film that could gross 1 billion RMB this year.

The success of 'Skiptrace' not only reconfirms Jackie Chan’s enduring star power, Jackie Chan, as an internationally recognized Kung Fu superstar, is still a huge draw for Chinese audiences; Chan’s last few films performed strongly at the box office such as the film 'Chinese Zodiac', 'Dragon Blade', 'Police Story' and so on. However, the film also had met with some mixed reactions from critics, some people saying that the movie was more like a hodgepodge of clichés, with the plot and even the stunts being too similar to Chan's previous offerings, and that the humor often does not work. Despite the criticisms, as the main character of the film, Jackie Chan said that he was still very happy with the results of the movie, he said he regarded the 'Skiptrace' as a part of his effort to showcase China.
